Here’s a glimpse at one of my guided reading groups.
I noticed a lot of the kids in my group were struggling to read the inflectional ending words, so we stopped.
I went threw the book and had the students write the root word of the words they were struggling with.
Then we used map pencils to add the endings and re-read the words. I modeled how to cover up the “ing” when reading so they could focus on the root word.
I love having the kids write them this way rather than just using an anchor chart because I feel like it really gives them ownership!

The real answer? I don't. But I can fit MOST of it in by repurposing almost everything I do. ⁣
⁣
If I do an activity whole group, I find a way to integrate it into stations. ⁣
⁣
I do phonics lessons whole group, but leave the independent practice in stations. ⁣
⁣
If I create a list of questions to ask in a whole group read aloud, I use the same questions in my small group. ⁣
⁣
It takes some very purposeful planning, but it's how I've made the most of the literacy time in my classroom!

Non-Text activities are my favorite way to start the week! It's a great opportunity for students to practice a comprehension skill outside of a text.Magazine pictures are my FAVORITE! ⁣
I've been using them for years to help students build their inferencing skills. I cut pictures out of magazines (usually animals), but I do not cut the entire picture. ⁣
The purpose of the activity is for students to illustrate and write about what they think is happening in the rest of the picture. ⁣
I start this activity in a whole group setting, then we move it into a station!
